MOCK DRILL FOR FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY
On 07.07.15, a Mock Drill for Fire and Life Safety was conducted at 10.00 am in St. Cecilia’s Public School, Vikas Puri for all the students as per guidelines received from Directorate of Education. The students were made to understand the escape plan and practice for moving through escape routes. They were told that the purpose of this drill was to establish a systematic, safe and orderly evacuation of students and teachers from the affected area to safety.
The school building was evacuated well within 3.5 minutes of time in a calm and orderly manner without any chaos and panic. All exit routes were clear of any obstacles. The Assembly points were clearly designated in all the floors of the building with proper guidelines given class-wise hence there was no confusion and mix up among the students and teachers. The volunteers on duty displayed signage like "Exit", "Enter", "Emergency Exit", "Assembly Point" etc. at appropriate locations, along with arrow marks for safe and quick evacuation as per the prepared plan. The Mock Drill was conducted in short reasonable time avoiding lethargy and lack of sense of participation.
In the presence of Madam Principal, Mrs. R Bhumra, the teacher in charge Mrs. Kavita Prakash and Mrs. Shashi Kalra along with Sports teachers gave demonstrations on the above drill in as they informed the students about the necessary Do’s and Don’ts during a Fire. The students were also shown the use of fire extinguisher in case of a fire. Through the medium of a skit the students were also told about the measures they must take to safe the fire victims with burns or injury.
The mock drill was successful and it was a good awareness activity for the students to prepare them to handle the situation of Fire Emergency.
