Road-Safety Week

15th – 19th December 2014

Workshop on Road Safety by Delhi Traffic Police Department on 15th December

Road safety is an issue of prime concern to all. Be it a pedestrian, rickshaw puller or a vehicle driver, any one can fall prey to mishaps on roads. The Global status report on road safety 2013 estimates that more than 2,31,000 people are killed in road traffic crashes in India every year which is more than the number of deaths caused because of any deadly disease. Eco-Club of St. Cecilia’s Public School, made an attempt to reduce the number of such unfortunate incidences by sensitizing students towards this global issue by celebrating ‘Road Safety Week’ from December 15 – December 19, 2014. The programme was initiated by Madam Vice Principal’s address to the students discussing the role of parents in preventing minor driving. It was followed by a workshop conducted by S.I. Mr. Vijay Yadav and A.S.I Mr. Bijendra Singh from Delhi Traffic Police on December 15, 2014 in the school hall. The team interacted with the students raising the issues of rash – driving, drunk driving, road rage with special mention to minor driving. They also discussed immediate causes and traumatic effects of impulsive behavior of people on roads. The importance of obeying traffic rules while travelling on the roads was also discussed. Students were sensitized on the issue so as to make them a responsible road user. The aim of the workshop was to enhance respect for one’s life and that of others- and inculcate the sensitivity that each life matters, thereby inspiring students to act responsibly on the road and  make Indian road the safest in the world.
