Stress management workshop

On 16th July 2014, St. Cecilia’s public school’s Counseling and Psychology department organized a workshop on ‘Stress Management’ for class XII students. The workshop covered pertinent topics such as introduction to stress, causes of stress, effective stress management techniques.  In the introductory sessions topic such as what is stress?  Definitions of stress and symptoms of stress, how to react to stress?  “fight or flight”, response, role of cortisol and sources of stress among students like academics, relationships, financial pressures and goal related pressures were discussed.  It was followed by a discussion on Stress Management strategies, introduction to positive self talk, time management, relaxation exercises were also discussed.  Practical exercises on stress relaxation were done by the students which involved Deep Breathing, Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Visualization/Imagery.  The workshop was closed with a recap and summary of learning from the day.

Madam Principal Mrs. R. Bhumra also encouraged the students to move forward to fight stress and tread on the path of happiness.

 

Time Management Workshop

A workshop on “Time Management” was organized by the Counseling and Psychology Department for class XII Commerce and Science. The workshop was specially designed to take care of the needs of students to strengthen  their skills of time management for a positive multiplier effect on their academic results and holistic development. The practice oriented development programme equipped the participants with a scientific and systematic approach to obstacles and strategies for time management. In this result focused workshop emphasis was laid on the planning, prioritizing and avoiding procrastination coupled with the techniques for identifying and effective handling of interruptions in time management. Almost 200 students who attended the workshop were enriched with the knowledge of utilizing time effectively for maximum productivity. The students were guided to maintain a balance between academics and recreational activities. Speaker of the day was Ms. Rekha Negi, PGT Psychology who encouraged students to draft time tables and home schedulers to maximize their utility of time. The workshop was a learning empowerment session for all the students.

 

Career Counseling Workshop

On 30 July 2014, a workshop on ‘Career Counseling’ was organized by the Counseling and Psychology Department for class XII Commerce and Science students. The workshop was specifically designed to orient and guide the students about various courses and jobs available in their respective areas of interest. The workshop aware the students of the Commerce stream by giving information such as banking, Business Management, Charted Accoutancy, cost and work Accountancy, Company secretary and actuarial science run by various governmental colleges and private institute of repute. Career options in the fields of medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, nursing, occupational therapy were explored with the students of Science stream. The emphasis was laid on the details regarding eligibility, syllabus of the entrance exam, duration of the course and the colleges offering the courses. Almost 200 students who attended the workshop were enriched with the career counseling workshop. Speaker of the day Ms Rekha Negi, PGT Psychology encouraged students to analyze their strengths, weaknesses and areas of interest before deciding for a particular job prospect. Students asked their queries related to the various careers and entrances for pursuing their studies abroad. Overall, the career counseling workshop oriented the students for making an informed choice regarding their careers.
